Why trust this site

We have not tested these feeders

Every roundup in this category says it tested a dozen feeders in a real backyard. We have not tested any of them, and we would rather say so than make a claim you cannot check.

Here is what we did instead. We read the manufacturers' own specification sheets and manuals, recorded the published capacities, dimensions, port counts and warranty terms, and cited every one of them so you can open the source yourself. We checked baffle geometry against the distances squirrels are documented to jump — and when the published figures disagreed with each other, which they do, we printed both rather than picking the convenient one.

We accept no free product and no payment for placement, and every roundup names something to skip. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it on the page.

The four pages that carry the argument

Where to hang a bird feeder

Every placement distance that matters, with the source for each — and an honest note where the published figures contradict each other.

Right now

It is feeder season

Autumn is the easiest time to start: natural food is still plentiful, so nothing depends on you while you get the placement and the seed right — and the birds that will use your yard all winter are working out their routes now.
